The studio
Inside Artardor.
Artardor is a small studio with two halves: one lives in China, close to the workshops and the makers; the other lives in Europe, close to the venues that host the gatherings. We exist to close that loop — to design a Chinese evening that is true to where it comes from and honest about where it is going.
We started Artardor to do one thing well: take a Chinese way of gathering that has lasted seventeen hundred years, and make it work in a room that is nowhere near China. We are not a factory, and we are not an events agency. We are the studio that designs the programme, names every object on the list, and stands behind the shipment.
Our China side sits inside a craft region decades deep — weavers, lacquerers, silversmiths, kilns, sample rooms, freight forwarders, all within an hour of one another. That closeness is why a brief can move from paper to prototype in weeks rather than months, and why a wrong colour match is settled on the floor instead of in a ten-day email chain.
Our Europe side lives where these gatherings actually happen: craft studios, community centres, museums, hotel courtyards and university halls across France, Germany, the Netherlands and beyond. We listen to what hosts are tired of — the paper lanterns, the dragon cut-outs, always the same three symbols — and carry every preference and hesitation back to the China desk as a brief it can act on.
Every programme begins with a date, a room and a guest count — never with a factory. After that, three things hold. Honesty is a material: nothing is designed that the workshop cannot truly make. Time is a luxury: we push back on any deadline that would ask a material to lie. And less, made well.
